Yee Lee Corporation Bhd group (YLC) began its core business as an edible oil repacker in Malaysia in 1968. Since then it has grown into a fully integrated manufacturer and distributor, and eventually gained its listing status in 1993. YLC group of companies are involved in various sectors such as manufacturing, marketing and distribution of fast moving consumer products, plantation and eco-tourism. The main products of YEELEE include “Helang” brand cooking oil, “Vecorn” corn oil and “SunLico” sunflower seed oil. The Company also has a 32% associate stake in Spritzer.

Today YLC has an established marketing and distribution network servicing both local as well as international customers. Canpac Sdn Bhd (Canpac) is established in manufacturing Aerosol can in year 1990. In year 2005, Canpac has invested a manufacturing plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, manufacturing aerosol tin cans for domestic and exports.
Canpac is fully equipped with latest metal printing & can making machines from Europe, with a total capacity of 100 million cans per year. It has well experience team and skilled labour which is an asset to the company and benefit to its clients. The aerosol production is more of specialized products manufactured for paints, cosmetic (hair sprays/moose), air fresheners, insecticide, butane gas, car care products and etc. Products were being supplied to domestic and export market.
It has well developed and expanded the business towards global market needs for domestic and exports. Canpac has been supplying to the major multinational Europe customers like Reckitt & Benkiser and SCJ. It also exports to Australia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and others countries.

For its financial year ended Dec 31, 2014 (FY14), Yee Lee’s net profit fell 19.5% to RM27.01mil but revenue rose 4.88% to RM690.45mil. Yee Lee attributes the fall in its net profit to the lower contribution from its two biggest arms.

Revenue from its trading division is the highest among all segments at RM464.08mil followed by manufacturing at RM223.7mil. 


However, due to the lower margins for the trading division, its manufacturing arm contributes the highest to its bottom-line at RM17.9mil compared with RM7.79mil for the trading division.

1976年公司生产红鹰油,以不含胆固醇的食油品质进入市场,并进行包装改革。经过很多研究后,红鹰油改革传统“不透明”的铁罐包装,而改为透明的塑胶瓶子,获得巨大成功,成为食油业的领航者,更在1993年于吉隆坡股票市场挂牌上市。

林国璋在食油业取得成功后,开始投资其他行业,包括创建大马第一间矿泉水生产厂必胜(Spritzer)和出产沙巴茶。尽管面对很多冷嘲热讽,但他不放弃一直努力经营,让必胜成为大马最畅销的矿泉水品牌,更在2000年成功上市。

Consumer counter Yee Lee Corp Bhd has allocated RM36mil for its capital expenditure this year to expand its business while continuously looking to add products to its distributorship portfolio.

Executive director and group general manager Chok Yin Fatt said it had allocated RM20mil for its packaging business, mainly to expand the efficiency of the aerosol can production machineries, while RM16mil had been set aside for its plantation division. “We are exploring the feasibility of developing a parcel of undeveloped land in Sabah into an oil palm plantation,” he told StarBiz. He declined to reveal the details, however, as the study was still in its initial stages.

According to Chok, the trading division was its biggest revenue contributor, providing 65% of the group's total revenue, followed by 22% from its packaging division, 12% from its palm oil refinery and mill and 1% from its other businesses, including plantation division.

“We are always searching for good brands to enlarge our product range under the trading division. We look at products which are synergistic to our existing products and distribution points,” he said, adding that the company had a sales network of nine branches in the peninsula and six in Sabah and Sarawak. The 15 sales branches would serve its distribution points, including petrol kiosks, supermarkets and grocery stores across the nation.

In the short term, the management plans to improve its trading division products portfolio in order to secure better margin. Throughout 2012, the Company has secured new distributorships from Reckitt Benckiser (UK consumer product company) and BIC (French stationery company). We like this strategy as it has shown good results so far with improved 1Q13 PBT margin of 3.22% against FY12’s 1.56% and FY11’s 1.35%.

With reference to the Distributorship Agreement ("Agreement") entered between Yee Lee Trading Co. Sdn. Bhd. (Company number : 7849-A) ("YLT"), a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Yee Lee Corporation Bhd. ("Yee Lee") and Johnson & Johnson Sdn. Bhd. ("J & J"), the Board of Directors ("Board") of Yee Lee wishes to announce that both parties have mutually agreed to terminate the Agreement with effect from 1st October 2013.

The Board views that the Termination is not expected to have any material impact on the Group's earnings or net assets for the financial year ending 31 December 2013.

Director Chok Yin Fatt says the group will continue to focus on its three core segments namely manufacturing, trading and plantation to drive growth.

“With our established distribution networks, we are constantly looking for prospective distributorships to increase our products range,” he says in an e-mail interview with StarBizWeek.

In January, the company announced it had terminated its agreement with Red Bull Asia FZE to distribute the energy drink in a tall and slim blue-silver can with effect from April 30.

To be noted, there are two different packagings of Red Bull in the market. The other type of Red Bull, in a shorter, wider golden can or bottle, is produced in Thailand.

That bottle or can is currently marketed by F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd in Malaysia and its market share is more sizeable than that of the slimmer can. To put things into prospective, 

In 2010, Red Bull Malaysia estimated the energy drink distributed by F&N contributed some RM130mil to F&N’s beverage sales per annum. 

Revenue from F&N Holdings’ ready-to-drink segment for its financial year ended September 30, 2011 was RM1.84bil.

Market talk is that a new distributorship for Yee Lee is under way following the termination of the agreement with Red Bull Asia FZE. 

Chok, however, dismisses such talk but says that the company is always looking for new or existing product brands with market growth potential that comes with a reasonable profit margin.


To drive growth, it aims to invest RM35mil compared with RM20mil previously.  Its plantations will utilise RM16mil of the planned capital expenditure, RM10mil will be for the palm oil mill, RM7mil for its aerosol cans and RM2mil for trading.

The margin squeeze for the trading division last year was partially caused by the higher advertising and promotion expenses for promoting its in-house brands but Chok expects the expenditure to reduce progressively going forward once consumers accept the brands. Besides distributing in-house brands, it also has the distributorship for other agency brands like Campbell, Old Town, Red Bull and Kimberly.  This type of distributorship usually excludes key accounts such as supermarkets and hypermarkets.

In year 2014, its manufacturing arm recorded a lower profit primarily due to lower fresh fruit bunches (FFB) processed and lower sales of aerosol cans and palm kernels.

“The division’s bottom-line was also affected by lower freight on board olein margin over crude palm oil price and high relocating and set up costs for shifting the aerosol can factory in Vietnam to the newly completed factory,” the company says. 

Due to the lower FFB processed, the operations of its palm oil mill incurred a loss despite an improvement in the oil extraction rate. Chok says the company has secured new FFB supplies from two estates, which will increase total FFB supplies by 4%. 
Meanwhile, the RM10mil capex for its oil palm mill is expected to improve the extraction rate and reduce operating costs, hence turning around the oil palm mill division this year.

Moving upstream to its plantation segment, Chok says the RM16mil allocation for its plantations is deferred from last year as the company has just obtained the Environmental Impact Assessment approval.

We are developing our 2,500 acres in Ranau, Sabah into oil palm plantations,” he says.


Currently, the company has about 800 acres of palm oil plantations in Peninsular Malaysia, which is fully planted with trees that have an average age of 23 years. It has also identified 158 acres for replanting in stages.

Its plantation division turned profitable last year after it recorded losses in FY13, mainly boosted by tea sales and better profit margins.

On its prospects, Chok expects the company’s costs to increase slightly with the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) as not all input taxes are claimable, hence affecting its bottom-line marginally.

Consumer sentiment upon of the implementation of GST, he says, may have a bigger impact on sales as people are likely to tighten their belts before adjusting to the new tax.

On the flipside, consumers’ savings from transportation costs as a result of lower petrol prices could mitigate the impact of GST.

The Board of Directors of YLC is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Yee Lee Marketing Sdn. Bhd. (“YLM”) had on today entered into a Distribution Partnership Agreement (“Agreement”) with Allexcel Trading Sdn. Bhd. (Company No. 108372-D), a company incorporated under the laws of Malaysia and having its registered address at No. 22, Jalan PJS 11/16, Bandar Sunway, 46150 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan (“Allexcel”) to be appointed as their exclusive distributor to market, distribute and sell Red Bull Gold, Red Bull Less Sugar and Red Bull Bottle energy drinks and such other items and consumables as Allexcel may from time to time decide to include as products (“Products”) in Malaysia and upon all the terms and conditions as stipulated in the Agreement.

The Agreement is for a period of five (5) years commencing from 1st August 2015 (“Initial Term”) and shall automatically be renewed for further periods of two (2) years upon each anniversary thereof (“Subsequent Terms”) unless or until rescinded or terminated by either partygiving to the other party a written notice at least three (3) months prior to the expiry date of the Initial Term or Subsequent Terms.
The timeframe for the provision of distribution services for the Products is as follows:-
(i) To commence distribution for the Modern Trade Channels on 1st August 2015; and
(ii) To commence distribution for the General Trade Channels on 1st October 2015.


The Agreement is expected to contribute positively to future profits, earnings per share and net assets per share of YLC commencing from financial year 2016.

Fast moving consumer products distributor Yee Lee Corp Bhd is once again the distributor for the ‘Red Bull’ energy drinks in Malaysia – and this time on an exclusive basis. It will be the sole distributor of the drinks here from Aug 1, 2015, taking over from beverage maker Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&N).

F&N (fundamental: 2.1; valuation: 1.1) had, on Mar 27, told the local bourse that it had mutually agreed with Allexcel not to renew the terms of their original agreement inked in February 2010 as both were unable to reach an agreement on the changes in commercial terms. The parties then agreed to a transition period of six months, which shall commence from April 1 to September 30, 2015, during which F&N will hand over the exclusive dealership to Allexcel Trading in phases.

The agreement sees the appointment of Yee Lee Marketing as Allexcel’s exclusive distributor to market, distribute and sell Red Bull Gold, Red Bull Less Sugar, and Red Bull Bottle energy drinks in Malaysia. Yee Lee also said the agreement is expected to contribute positively to its future profits from financial year 2016.

In January this year, Yee Lee announced that its wholly-owned unit Yee Lee Trading Co Sdn Bhd had ceased to be the non-exclusive distributor of Red Bull Energy Drink and Red Bull Sugarfree in Malaysia.

击退饮料巨擘星狮集团有限公司(F&N,3689,消费产品组),落实获得红牛独家分销权,有望抬高这家中型资本怡保公司截至2016年12月31日止财政年度的收益。

从Allexcel贸易私人有限公司手上获颁的分销权,将给予义利机构独家权力,以分销3个主要红牛能源饮料,即红牛少糖、罐装红牛黄金和瓶装红牛,从8月1日开始为期5年。义利机构将取代星狮集团之前的角色,负责行销、分销和销售上述3款红牛能源饮料。


义利机构自2010年以来,已经是进口蓝罐红牛国际饮料Red Bull Asia FZE的分销商,惟双方已在义利机构获得Allexcel贸易独家分销权的宣布出炉前,同意终止这项合约。义利机构在最近的宣布中称,终止Red Bull Asia FZE合约预料不会对该公司2015财政年的收益产生任何实质影响。

Allexcel贸易指出,目前,每年超过400万箱红牛能源饮料在马来西亚出售。这也是2010年当星狮集团与Allexcel贸易签署协议成为独家分销商时200万箱的2倍。“基于AC尼尔森2015年3月的零售审核,红牛享有泛马来西亚能源饮料领域超过50%的支配市场份额。大部分售出的红牛能源饮料,属于罐装红牛黄金。

至于这项独家分销权将如何加强义利机构的收益方面,星狮集团首席执行员林友和早前在出席星狮集团上半年业绩发表后披露,红牛业务为该公司带来介于2亿至2亿5000万令吉的常年收益。这将占了义利机构2014财政年6亿9045万令吉全年收益的约30%。但义利机构拒绝评论上述分销权带来的潜在回馈。联昌投银研究在一份针对星狮集团所作的报告中指出,基于其良好利润,红牛业务可贡献星狮集团超过5%的净盈利。虽然5%净盈利贡献对星狮集团而言并非庞大,但它对义利机构的影响却是相当显著的。基于其累积6个月净盈利1亿4040万令吉,星狮集团截至2015年9月30日止财政年的常年化全年盈利达2亿8085万令吉。假定红牛业务贡献星狮集团5%净盈利,这意味着义利机构可从独家分销权中获取1400万令吉左右,占了义利机构2014财政年净盈利2701万令吉的一半。

获得国际著名提神饮料红牛(Red Bull)大马独家分销权的义利(YEELEE,5584,主板消费股),成立一个独特饮料商业单位和销售团队,并预见红牛在未来3至5年可为该公司带来正面的盈利贡献。该公司首席执行员林逸扬表示,「专设的团队,所管理的品牌较为单一,因此在业务提升方面可確保其专注性。」

另外,由于义利2015財政年將在12月31日结账,因此在10月1日正式进行红牛独家分销活动的义利表示,目前仍未能反映该项合作对该公司所带来的贡献。他补充说,「但在未来3至5年,將可看见(红牛)所带来的正面效益。」

义利目前已投入200万令吉在走向市场(GTM)科技,包括分销管理、销售团队自动化系统等。另外,在未来3年,预计將再注入500万至1000万令吉,以提升销售人员的生產力及物流效率。

另一方面,红牛过去5年成功把大马市场的销售量翻倍,至2015年的500万箱。將红牛在大马市场的独家分销权,颁发给义利的Allexcel贸易有限公司总经理黄冠中表示,「虽然红牛销售量已翻倍,但在大马的人均消费仅1.2公升,远低于泰国的5.3公升,因此大马市场仍具潜力。此外,红牛的创办公司——天丝医药保健有限公司(T.C.PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES)http://export.redbullthailand.com/index.php/corporate/data 首席执行员沙拉胡特披露,泰国在提神饮料方面已存在长远歷史,因此渗透率较强,同时,泰国市场因拥有强劲的竞爭力,因此红牛在售价上亦低于大马。他补充道,该公司旨在提升红牛在世界各地的分佈,同时亦不排除未来將引进旗下除了红牛以外的其他品牌的提神饮料及零食进入大马市场。「但,目前我们將以巩固红牛在大马的稳定性为首要任务。」

黄冠中称,相信通过努力,將持续提升该品牌在本地的渗透率,目前其在大马提神饮料的市佔率为55%。他指出,该公司將以成为该领域的领头羊为目標。

每个人都无法选择自己的出身,有良好出身要珍惜,出身清寒也要积极不断自我提升!这是马来西亚中华总商会署理总会长暨义利有限公司集团董事经理拿督林国璋,从自己的经历而给年轻人的一番勉励。

他出生后的童年时期,是一个动荡的大时代,经历日本占领马来亚的战乱,紧接而来又遇马共与英军对抗的紧急状态时期,更遇上震惊国人的5·13事件。

在那个时代,能接受教育诚属不易。因此林国璋感叹,在那个年代能接受完整的教育是一种福气,因为自己在不断迁移的成长过程中,曾念了7间小学和3间中学。

“虽然我的童年过得很坎坷,但不因此自暴自弃、自卑,而是很乐观地生活。”

林国璋回忆起少年时期,曾在新加坡一家杂货店中工作,过后在父亲的介绍下到吉隆坡的大油厂去从事销售工作。当时,他跑遍雪兰莪州和吉隆坡,掌握到市场的人口结构,从中学会洞察商业的先机,对后来创立义利公司非常有帮助。

林国璋说,面对强大的竞争对手,要有灵活的应对策略。他在企业草创时期就积极争取大油厂忽略的小市场,逐渐扩展地盘,后来为了突破企业的困境,开始产生设立炼油厂的念头。“我没有人脉、没有资金,但也不放弃,拿着皮箱去找亲戚朋友借钱,后来获得银行的贷款,终于在70年代在怡保打昔工业区买下8亩地,来建设炼油厂。”

林国璋劝勉年轻人,要了解自己出身,如果拥有良好的出身要好好珍惜,而出身不好也要以正面的想法来不断自我提升。他说,每个人都无法选择自己的出身,年轻人应不断自我提升,不要看轻自己,不对自己失望,而只要下定决心,就一定能成功。“人都是会有自卑的心态,但如果一直有负面想法,这怎么会成功?只有当你想要成功,并开始做各种准备、收集资料、做调查,才能看准目标。”他也说,自己从小继承父亲的教诲,做人要踏实、有诚信、要勤俭、要帮助人、不要太计较,这都成为他人生的座右铭。

林国璋也说,通过参加各种教育、体育、社团的工作,他发现投入公益活动可以促进人脉,带来商机。“红鹰油和必胜一直有为各种比赛提供赞助,通过体育和品牌挂钩,可以开拓商机。”

他说自己也通过体育运动,特别是打篮球从中获得启发,企业家一定要有团体精神,必须学会配合其他人,不能一个人单打独斗。

他也说企业要在透明化的营运下,平时多对员工提供好的待遇,当遇上经营困难的时候,员工才会同心协力帮助企业度过难关。
